Rev Richard Dykes, Pastor
Pastor Richard Dykes and his wife, Barbie, lead our ministry team. They provide spiritual direction for Buna UPC, and represent more than fifty years of combined ministry experience.
Pastor Dykes is an enthusiastic outgoing person who rarely meets a stranger. His zest for life and his love for people are evident the moment one first meets him. As an anointed minister of the Gospel, Bro Dykes delivers solid-bible-based teaching and preaching designed to enhance one’s relationship with Jesus Christ.
Before assuming the pastorate of Buna UPC in August of 2006, Bro Dykes served as an Associate Pastor at First Pentecostal Church in New Orleans, LA. He has served in various sectional and district positions in the United Pentecostal Church, International, including Sectional Sunday School Director and Louisiana District Foreign Missions Director.
Bro and Sis Dykes are natives of the metro New Orleans area, and have two married sons; Richard Jr who is married to Colleen, and Nicholas who is married to Brandy. The Dykes are the proud grandparents of Annie Ruth Dykes, daughter of Richard Jr and Colleen, and Evangeline Olivia Dykes, daughter of Nicholas and Brandy.
Richard "Jimbo" and Tammy Haefs, KIDS Church
Jimbo and Tammy Haefs lead our midweek ministry to children. They, along with their team of creative volunteers, minister each Wednesday evening to children ages four through eleven.
One only needs to observe this husband-wife team in action to recognize their love and passion for ministering to children. Jimbo and Tammy have served as Sunday School teachers and KIDS Church leaders for more than fourteen years. They want every child to learn . . .
- who Jesus is,
- that living for God can be fun, and
- that attending Church is an important part of their life.
Jimbo is a carpenter/homebuilder, and Tammy is an employee of the Buna ISD. These high school sweethearts have been married for more than twenty-one years, and are lifelong residents of Buna. The Haefs have one son, James who is married to the former Ashley Jordan.
Carolyn Holloway, Music Ministry & Church Secretary/Treasurer
Carolyn Holloway leads our music ministry. She and a talented team of vocalists and musicians strive through music to create an atmosphere of praise and worship. Carolyn says, "My desire is to help create an atmosphere of worship so that the presence of the Lord is felt in every service."
She is a lifelong member of Buna UPC, and has been involved the music for more than twenty-six years. Also, Carolyn directs our chorale and serves as the church’s secretary/treasurer.
Carolyn and her husband, Raymond, are lifelong residents of Buna. They have to children; Carly and Denton, and will soon celebrate nineteen years of marriage.
